President Donald Trump stated his renewed position regarding Iran on Friday as he green-lit the transfer of a second aircraft carrier to the Middle East.
When asked about regime change in Iran, Trump commented that it “seems like that would be the best thing that could happen.”
Earlier on Friday, the Trump administration ordered the USS Gerald Ford aircraft carrier to reposition to the Middle East, and will leave “very soon,” and is the largest warship in the world. The vessel is currently in the Caribbean and was operating in the region during the U.S. operation in Venezuela.
U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff, Presidential advisor Jared Kushner, and Iranian foreign minister Abbas Araghchi took part in dialogue in Muscat, Oman to discuss the nuclear issue and left the meeting with the intent to organize another round of talks.
On Wednesday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met with Trump at the White House to discuss Iran, and urged Trump to incorporate the ballistic missile and proxy network issues into negotiations, which Iran rejects.
Israel also signaled that they are maintaining the option of unilateral intervention in Iran if a comprehensive deal is not reached.
Trump echoed a similar position, stating that “this will be very traumatic for Iran if they don't make a deal.”
