Syrian internal security forces announced on Monday that they had thwarted an attempt to smuggle a large shipment of weapons into Lebanese territory, following coordinated operations in central and southern Syria.
According to the Internal Security Directorate in the Al-Qusayr area of Homs, acting in cooperation with the Internal Security Directorate in Al-Nabk in the rural Damascus countryside, the operation was carried out in the al-Brij area after authorities received precise intelligence regarding the movement of a suspicious vehicle coming from the town of Jrijir.
According to the state news agency SANA, the intercepted shipment of weapons included nine guided missiles, 68 rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) rounds, two 107-millimeter rockets, and five boxes of BKC ammunition.
The source added that security personnel subsequently raided the hideout used by the smuggling group in the town of Jrijir, from which the weapons had been transported. During the raid, Russian-made magazines and daytime binoculars were seized. Authorities said efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest all individuals involved in the operation.
The Ministry of Interior reiterated that combating smuggling networks remains a national priority, stressing that security operations will continue without interruption to strengthen border control and prevent attempts that threaten public safety.
