U.S. Ambassador Michel Issa stressed that “negotiations between Lebanon and Israel are essential for lasting peace, and both sides are ready to engage in U.S.-mediated talks when the conditions are right.”
In an interview with MTV, Issa stated that “the Lebanese Army has significantly expanded its deployment in the South and has already begun dismantling Hezbollah’s military infrastructure. It must continue the disarmament process across all Lebanese territory, in line with the government’s decision to restore full sovereignty.”
He added that “U.S. support will continue with the aim of strengthening the army and security forces so they can implement the state’s decision to restrict weapons to legitimate institutions only,” noting that “the sovereignty of the Lebanese state rests on a single weapon and a single army across all of its territory.”
