The Syrian ISF command in Latakia announced on Monday that security units had apprehended members of one of the most dangerous ISIS-aligned cells during a precision operation in the al-Badrusiya area of northern Latakia countryside, as reported by SANA.

Brigadier General Abdulaziz Hilal al-Ahmad, Commander of Internal Security in Latakia Governorate, said in a statement published on the Interior Ministry’s Telegram channel that “following extensive surveillance and intelligence efforts, specialized units, operating in coordination with the General Intelligence Directorate, executed a meticulously planned operation targeting an ISIS-linked cell preparing to carry out attacks in the Syrian coastal region.”

He noted that the cell’s members opened fire during the raid in an attempt to resist arrest, prompting an armed confrontation. All members were eventually captured, with two killed after refusing to surrender. Authorities also seized a cache of weapons and various types of ammunition, while an intelligence officer sustained a serious injury during the operation.

Brig. Gen. al-Ahmad stressed that the Internal Security Command in Latakia remains committed to tracking down anyone who seeks to threaten public security, emphasizing that any attempt to endanger the coastal region or support terrorist groups will be met with decisive and forceful measures.
