French President Emmanuel Macron on Tuesday hailed what he described as Lebanon’s “courageous decisions” aimed at ensuring that arms remain solely in the hands of legitimate state forces.

In a letter to his Lebanese counterpart, President Joseph Aoun, Macron reaffirmed his commitment to convening two international conferences in support of Lebanon before the end of the year.

The first, he said, will focus on backing the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF), which he called “the cornerstone of national sovereignty.” The second will address Lebanon’s broader recovery and reconstruction efforts.

Macron also underscored the enduring friendship between Paris and Beirut, pledging France’s continued support “in all fields.” He welcomed the UN Security Council’s recent renewal of the mandate for the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), describing it as a positive step for regional stability.
