The Ministry of Finance has denied, in a statement issued by its press office, rumors circulating on social media claiming that Minister Yassine Jaber blocked the entry of containers at Tripoli Port. These accusations, the statement says, have been presented through a sectarian lens and are “misleading.”

The statement clarifies that no decision has been made to suspend operations at Tripoli Port. On the contrary, the minister is reportedly working to enhance the capacities of both Tripoli and Beirut ports, including the installation of new scanners capable of inspecting up to 60 containers per hour.

The only measure adopted aims at strengthening customs controls. Following multiple security reports indicating irregularities and the seizure of smuggled goods, the minister instructed the Customs Directorate to tighten inspections of suspicious containers, requiring them to be opened before leaving the port to verify the declared cargo.

The Ministry regrets that some are attempting to misinterpret this measure, whose primary objective is to combat smuggling and enforce the law, by giving it a sectarian interpretation. The statement concludes by reaffirming that Minister Jaber remains committed to modernizing Tripoli Port to make it a high-performing, credible and competitive regional hub.
