United States President Donald Trump told Axios in an interview Sunday that negotiations over his plan to end the war in Gaza are "at their final stages" and contended a deal could open the way for wider peace in the Middle East.

Earlier in the day, Trump had announced “something special, a first” in Middle East peace negotiations on the eve of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s visit to the White House.

“We have a real chance to achieve something great in the Middle East. Everyone is ready for something special, a first. We will get it done,” he wrote on his Truth Social platform.

Trump declared, “We have a real chance for GREATNESS IN THE MIDDLE EAST. ALL ARE ON BOARD FOR SOMETHING SPECIAL.”

In another all-caps post on Truth Social, he wrote, “FIRST TIME EVER. WE WILL GET IT DONE!!!”

The US plan to end the war in Gaza urges Palestinians to stay in the enclave while outlining a path toward a future Palestinian state, according to a copy obtained by several media outlets.

The 21-point proposal, circulated by Washington to several Arab and Muslim nations on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly earlier this week, also reiterates key elements found in recent initiatives, including the release of all hostages and the ousting of Hamas from power.

Netanyahu

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told Fox News that discussions with President Trump’s team are ongoing regarding the 21-point U.S. proposal to end the war in Gaza.

Netanyahu emphasized that the details of the deal have not yet been finalized but expressed hope that efforts to advance the agreement will succeed. He added that Hamas leaders in Gaza must release hostages and said Israel is prepared to provide them with a safe exit from the Strip.

White House envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner met Netanyahu on Sunday in New York in an effort to bridge the remaining gaps between the U.S. and Israel, a source familiar with the meeting said.

Netanyahu has cancelled his scheduled participation in a Jewish News Syndicate conference in New York City this afternoon, his office confirmed.

Netanyahu is reportedly using the time to prepare for his meeting tomorrow with US President Donald Trump in Washington.

The cancellation comes shortly before Netanyahu appears on Fox News.

King Abdullah II

King Abdullah II of Jordan stated that many details within the proposed Gaza plan "are consistent with what was agreed upon" on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.
