The Lebanese Army carried out raids in Dar al-Wasaa, Baalbeck, on Friday, deploying air force units and drones in pursuit of wanted individuals and contraband. Field reports confirmed that a prominent fugitive, identified as H.J. and known by the alias “al-Sabee’,” was killed during the operation.

In a statement, the Army Command said that units, supported by Military Intelligence, launched the September 26 raid as part of ongoing operations targeting “dangerous fugitives.” H.J. was wanted on multiple charges, including firing at army posts, killing soldiers, arms and drug trafficking and kidnapping.

According to the statement, H.J. and others opened fire on troops, injuring several soldiers. “The army responded, leading to his death,” it added, noting that investigations are underway and efforts continue to apprehend the remaining fugitives.

Following the raids, one of the army’s posts reportedly came under attack in retaliation, while additional clashes erupted between army units and fugitives in the al-Sharawneh neighborhood of Baalbeck. Reports indicate casualties among the Jaafar family during these clashes in al-Sharawneh and Tal al-Abyad.

The army subsequently sealed off all entrances to the al-Sharawneh and Tal al-Abyad neighborhoods as part of its security measures. Heavy military reinforcements were also dispatched toward al-Sharawneh, amid heightened alert in nearby army barracks.
