President Joseph Aoun met Sunday evening in New York with a delegation of Lebanese-American business leaders, where discussions centered on Lebanon’s economic crisis, ongoing negotiations with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the situation in southern Lebanon, infrastructure reconstruction, digital transformation, and the participation of expatriates in the May 2026 parliamentary elections.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly, which this year marks its 80th anniversary. Aoun, accompanied by Foreign Minister Youssef Raggi and Lebanon’s Ambassador to Washington, Nada Hamade Moawad, also began a round of talks with world leaders and heads of state. In those meetings, he stressed the role and responsibilities of the Lebanese Army (LAF) in safeguarding the country’s security and stability, while underscoring the importance of reconstruction efforts in southern Lebanon.

Reviewing the government’s steps to stabilize the economy, the president emphasized the urgency of launching financial, economic, and judicial reforms to restore investor confidence. “For Lebanon to reclaim its regional role, investment must first return,” he said, urging the Lebanese diaspora to actively support this process.

Business leaders welcomed the government’s efforts and voiced their willingness to use their networks to defend Lebanon’s interests and contribute to its recovery.

The President of the Republic is scheduled to continue his meetings on Monday, starting at noon (New York time), at the United Nations headquarters with a number of heads of state and delegations participating in the UN General Assembly sessions.
