The Ministry of Agriculture announced the launch of a nationwide project to reforest roadside areas across Lebanon, as part of its strategy to enhance green spaces and protect biodiversity. The initiative also aims to improve urban and rural landscapes.
Minister of Agriculture Nizar Hani emphasized that the project represents “an investment in our environment, public health and resilience to climate change,” and encouraged municipalities to participate. Interested local authorities can submit their applications by September 20 through the ministry’s regional offices.
Eligible sites must meet specific criteria, including being located along public or municipal roads and having a permanent water source for irrigation. Applications will be reviewed by the ministry’s technical services, which will assess feasibility before final approval by the Directorate of Rural Development and Natural Resources.
The ministry highlighted that the initiative is part of a national effort to strengthen municipal engagement in sustainable development and mitigate the impacts of climate change.
