President Joseph Aoun urged on Tuesday the Lebanese to seize a rare opportunity to place the country on a path toward stability and security, warning that failure to act would leave Lebanon vulnerable to internal divisions and regional turmoil.
Speaking to the new board of the Holy Spirit University of Kaslik, which visited him in Baabda, Aoun stressed that Lebanon cannot afford to lose itself in “selfishness, personal interests, or sectarian and partisan calculations.”
He argued that such rivalries have long obstructed the building of a strong state.
“This opportunity can place Lebanon on firm ground and shield our nation from the fallout of the erupting volcano in the region,” he said, adding, “National solidarity is indispensable to protect Lebanon.”
Acknowledging the hardships and anxieties faced by citizens, Aoun reassured them that he is committed to guiding Lebanon toward renewal. “I extend my hand to all Lebanese to confront the challenge I accepted when I was elected president,” he said.
“We want to build a nation that keeps pace with progress, and restore Lebanon’s glory and brilliance. But this cannot happen unless the Lebanese believe in their homeland and rise above narrow interests to focus on the greater national interest.”
Aoun’s message was clear: Lebanon now has a rare chance to stabilize and protect itself from the dangers surrounding it. Whether this chance is seized or wasted depends on the ability of its leaders and people to prioritize the nation above division.
