The Trump administration has asked Israel to reduce non-urgent military operations in Lebanon to support a wider disarmament initiative, while planning a “Trump economic zone” in parts of southern Lebanon, according to sources with direct knowledge of the matter.

Officials say the limitation could be extended if the Lebanese Armed Forces take stronger steps to prevent Hezbollah from reestablishing itself in southern Lebanon. The move reflects a broader US strategy to stabilize the region while avoiding a prolonged Israeli occupation.

As part of the plan, the administration envisions a “Trump economic zone” in parts of southern Lebanon near the Israeli border. The zone is intended to boost local economies and make it harder for Hezbollah to maintain a military presence close to Israel.

Saudi Arabia and Qatar have reportedly agreed to invest in reconstruction projects within the zone after Israel’s withdrawal is complete. US officials say the initiative aims to address Israel’s security concerns while promoting economic development and stability in Lebanon.

Sources describe the economic zone as a key component of Washington’s approach, allowing Lebanon to assert control over its southern regions and reducing the likelihood of renewed conflict along the border.

The proposal signals a continuation of US efforts to manage Middle East tensions through a combination of military restraint and economic incentives.
