The Lebanese army on Monday announced a major reshuffle affecting 107 positions, including the replacement of General Maher Raad — a close associate of MP Mohammad Raad, head of Hezbollah’s parliamentary bloc — with Colonel Samer Hamadeh as head of military intelligence in Beirut’s southern suburb, a Hezbollah stronghold.
Maher Raad, who had held the post since 2017, was reassigned to the Inspector General’s Office.
According to a circular issued by Army Commander General Rodolphe Haykal, the changes will take effect on Tuesday. General Mohammad Mortada was appointed head of the Beirut region within military intelligence.
