The Lebanese Army (LAF) addressed circulating reports following Monday’s announcement of a major reshuffle affecting 107 military positions.
In a statement released Tuesday, LAF indicated that some media outlets, news websites, and social media platforms shared a leaked memo detailing the transfers and dismissals of officers, accompanied by various analyses, including “false accusations regarding the reasons behind the changes.”
In this context, LAF emphasized that reshuffling and dismissal of officers is “a routine and periodic process” and urged media and journalists to avoid sharing military documents or inaccurate information “that could harm the morale of military personnel and the institution as a whole.”
On Monday, the Army Command had announced key appointments, including the replacement of General Maher Raad, a close associate of Hezbollah’s MP Mohammad Raad, with Colonel Samer Hamadeh as head of military intelligence in Beirut’s southern suburb, a Hezbollah stronghold.
General Raad, who had held the position since 2017, was reassigned to the Inspector General’s Office, while General Mohammad Mortada was appointed head of the Beirut region within military intelligence.
The changes, ordered by LAF Commander General Rodolphe Haykal in a circular issued on Monday, took effect on Tuesday. The command confirmed it has launched investigations to identify those responsible for leaking the documents and pledged to take disciplinary action.
