The Parliament is set to convene on Thursday, July 31, at 11 AM to examine a series of draft laws, including two high-priority bills on banking sector restructuring and judicial independence, both central to reform demands made by the international community.

The agenda was finalized during a meeting of the Chamber’s bureau, chaired by Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, held on Tuesday afternoon. Following the bureau’s deliberations, Berri officially called the legislature to session on Thursday.

MP Alain Aoun noted that several proposals left pending from the previous legislative meeting would also be addressed. These include amendments to the law on commercial leases and the regulation of the pharmacy profession, as well as a draft law outlining criteria for granting management allowances to public school principals. According to Aoun, these three items will be discussed early in the session.

However, the spotlight remains on the two reformist bills, banking sector restructuring and judicial independence, both seen as key steps in meeting the requirements set by international donors and financial institutions.

“These two texts are reform-oriented and their adoption is demanded by the international community,” Aoun said, underlining their significance in Lebanon’s broader recovery plan.

He added that with the passage of these bills, Parliament will have fulfilled its legislative obligations concerning the core reforms. “All that remains is the law concerning financial regularization and the return of deposits, which must now be drafted and submitted by the government without delay,” he stressed.

Aoun affirmed that once this final piece is introduced and passed, Lebanon will have met all reform benchmarks outlined by its international partners.
