President Joseph Aoun on Tuesday left for Bahrain on an official visit aimed at revitalizing and strengthening relations between Beirut and Manama, following a period of strained ties.
Commenting on the visit, Foreign Affairs Minister Youssef Rajji described it as a pivotal step toward restoring bilateral trust and cooperation, stressing that it carries “great importance” in moving beyond past tensions.
In an interview with the Bahraini daily Al-Ayyam on Tuesday, Rajji said the visit seeks to “remove the effects of any impurities that previously marred relations between the two countries.” He emphasized Lebanon’s firm rejection of any conspiracy against Bahrain or its sovereignty and affirmed Beirut’s commitment to fostering strategic partnerships with the Kingdom.
“The visit of President Aoun to Bahrain, and previously to other Arab nations, reflects Lebanon’s genuine efforts, not only in words but through concrete action, to re-engage with the Arab world,” Rajji stated. He also made clear that “Lebanon is determined to reclaim its natural position among its Arab brothers and restore its regional relations.”
Rajji further noted that Lebanon has entered “a new era,” marked by a renewed diplomatic approach and a commitment to elevating ties with Bahrain for the mutual benefit of both nations.
While acknowledging that political developments had at times disrupted the relationship, Rajji stressed that the core bond between the two peoples remained intact.
“Even if politics briefly interfered, the fraternal relationship between Lebanon and Bahrain has always remained rooted in the conscience of the two nations,” he said, concluding that “the past is behind us.”
From Manama, President Aoun reiterated Lebanon’s appreciation for its longstanding ties with the Kingdom of Bahrain. He said Lebanon “takes pride in its deep-rooted relations” with the kingdom and “greatly values Bahrain’s supportive stances in various international and regional forums.” Aoun emphasized that the visit represents “a valuable opportunity to enhance cooperation between Lebanon and Bahrain across political, economic, and cultural fields.”
Looking ahead to the official meetings, the president said he was eager for “fruitful discussions with His Majesty the King and senior Bahraini officials,” aiming to explore new avenues for bilateral cooperation and to exchange views on key regional and international developments.
