United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs, Rosemary DiCarlo, concluded an official visit to Lebanon on Friday, during which she expressed clear support for the country’s reform agenda and state sovereignty.

Her visit follows in the footsteps of UN Secretary-General António Guterres’ trip to Lebanon last January.

According to the UN spokesperson, DiCarlo reaffirmed the United Nations’ unwavering commitment to Lebanon during this critical period, calling on all relevant parties to respect the ceasefire and fully implement UN Security Council Resolution 1701 (adopted in 2006), as well as all other related resolutions.

She also commended the role of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) and the Office of the UN Special Coordinator for Lebanon in promoting stability in the country.

On Thursday, DiCarlo visited UNIFIL’s headquarters in southern Lebanon near the Blue Line, where she witnessed firsthand the impact of recent hostilities on nearby border villages.

Finally, she reiterated the UN’s support for the Lebanese government in its efforts to advance an urgent reform roadmap and strengthen state authority.
