The State of Qatar and the Republic of Lebanon issued a joint statement on Wednesday outlining the outcomes of Lebanese President Joseph Aoun’s official visit to Doha.
The statement emphasized that during talks between Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and President Aoun, both sides reaffirmed the vital role of the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF), the need to support the military institution, and the importance of fully implementing United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701.
As part of its ongoing support, Emir Al Thani announced the renewal of a $60 million grant to help cover the salaries of LAF personnel. He also pledged the donation of 162 military vehicles aimed at enhancing the LAF’s operational capacity in maintaining internal stability and securing Lebanon’s borders.
The statement further underscored the “urgent need” to revitalize Lebanon’s stalled economic reform process and highlighted the importance of advancing cooperation across key sectors.
“Both parties underlined the potential to deepen bilateral ties through increased investment, trade, and the establishment of strategic partnerships across various fields that serve the mutual interests of both nations,” the statement read.
On regional affairs, the Qatari and Lebanese leaderships reiterated their commitment to resolving conflicts through dialogue and diplomacy. In particular, they stressed the importance of de-escalation efforts in southern Lebanon amid ongoing tensions.
President Aoun’s visit, the statement concluded, reflects the strength of the fraternal relationship between the two countries and the enduring historical ties between their peoples.
