On the 50th anniversary of the outbreak of the Lebanese Civil War, French President Emmanuel Macron delivered a powerful message on X urging Lebanon to break free from foreign entanglements and focus on building lasting peace.
“Fifty years ago, the Lebanese Civil War began. On this solemn anniversary, I pay tribute to all the victims of that terrible conflict – those who died, those who are still missing, and those who were forced to leave their homeland,” Macron said.
He went on to emphasize that Lebanon now has the opportunity to exit the “wars of others” and build a future based on a strong, sovereign state and lasting harmony.
“France stands alongside Lebanon and the Lebanese people to move forward in that direction,” he affirmed.
Macron’s message comes at a moment of deep reflection for Lebanon, as the country marks a pivotal and painful chapter in its modern history while still grappling with internal instability and external pressures.
