The Syrian army announced on Wednesday that it had reached an agreement and coordination framework with the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) on securing the border town of Hosh al-Sayyed Ali, warning that any breach of the understanding by Hezbollah would be met with a firm and direct response.
In a statement published by the state-run SANA news agency, the Syrian army said the two armies agreed to withfraw from the village of Hosh al-Sayyed Ali and ensure the safe return of civilians, with no military presence inside the village itself. Instead, both armies would position their forces on the outskirts of the town.
“We reaffirm our commitment to implementing the agreement,” the statement read, adding that “any breach of this understanding by Hezbollah will be met with a firm and direct response without prior warning.”
On the other hand, Lebanese Defense Minister Michel Menassa told MTV that the LAF’s intervention in recent clashes aimed to protect Lebanese citizens. He explained that the agreement with Syria focused on securing a ceasefire between the two sides.
The defense minister also revealed that a proposal was made to send a specialized Lebanese delegation to Damascus for further coordination with the Syrian authorities. He noted that this initiative would be clarified in the coming days through official contacts. However, he denied any suggestion to deploy UNIFIL troops along the eastern border, stating that “no one has approached us with such a proposal.”
The border town has been the scene of intense confrontations in the past few days between Syrian forces and local tribes that caused several casualties on both sides .
