In response to President Joseph Aoun's election and his transformative inaugural speech, the Lebanese-American Coordinating Committee (LACC) conveyed a message of support and commitment.
In a letter addressed on Monday to the new President of the Republic, Joseph Aoun, following his election last Thursday, the LACC welcomed this new chapter for Lebanon. It also reaffirmed its "commitment to the principles outlined in the historic inaugural speech" delivered upon assuming the presidency.
They praised Aoun's election as a beacon of hope after a prolonged presidential vacuum, vowing to stand by his initiatives for reform, sovereignty and national unity.
"Your election as president of the Lebanese Republic comes after a forced presidential vacuum imposed by the mafia-militia alliance and its supporters from the Resistance Axis — a vacuum that lasted two years and three months," the text reads. "During this period, the Constitution was violated, sovereignty was undermined, corruption spread, the state's decision-making power in matters of peace and war was confiscated, justice was sacrificed and despair engulfed the Lebanese people to the extent of threatening Lebanon's cultural identity," the statement continues.
As a pivotal bridge between Lebanese expatriates across the globe and partners within Lebanon, the LACC affirmed its dedication to the principles articulated in President Aoun's inaugural speech. Standing in solidarity with the president's mission to rescue Lebanon alongside a new government aligned with his transformative agenda, the LACC vowed to spare no effort in ensuring the success of this collective endeavor, underscoring their steadfast commitment and unwavering promise to support Lebanon's journey towards renewal and progress. These actions primarily involve, as per the text, "upholding the National Pact, implementing all the reforms outlined in the Taif Agreement, reaffirming the state's exclusive right to bear arms, combating corruption, embracing positive neutrality through effective diplomacy, upholding justice through accountability as a foundational principle of state-building and fully implementing international resolutions without exception or selective application."
