The Director General of Civil Aviation, Fadi al-Hassan, revealed to This is Beirut that Beirut International Airport (AIB) recorded the arrival of 11,070 passengers in one day before Christmas. This is the highest number ever for the month of December and a significant record compared to previous years.
Hassan reported that total arrivals to date are around 220,000 passengers, which means that figures are beginning to approach those of previous years during the same period. He pointed out that “we are 85% close to 2023 in terms of arrivals. However, departures from Lebanon remain 60% lower year-on-year.”
He also pointed out that the airlines that have resumed operations have maintained a limited number of flights. However, he expects the resumption and scheduling of flights to improve in January. He also reported that some airlines, such as Air France and Lufthansa, are not operating in Beirut yet, while Emirates Airlines is expected to resume operations within the next 10 days.
