The Houthis claimed responsibility on Tuesday for launching a "ballistic missile" targeting central Israel, while the Israeli military earlier stated that it had intercepted a "projectile."

The operation, carried out with a "hypersonic ballistic missile Palestine 2," targeted a "military enemy position in the Yafa region (the Arabic name for Jaffa) in occupied Palestine," the Yemeni rebels said in a statement.

The Israeli military had previously reported that a "projectile launched from Yemen was intercepted by the Israeli Air Force before entering Israeli territory."

The projectile was intercepted after sirens went off in several areas of central and southern Israel before dawn, according to the Israeli military's statement.

According to Magen David Adom (MDA), Israel's equivalent of the Red Cross, no injuries were reported.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Monday that he had asked the military to "destroy the infrastructure" of the Houthi rebels in Yemen, who have fired several missiles at Israel in recent days, one of which injured 16 people lightly in Tel Aviv on Friday night into Saturday.

In a message to the Saudis, the Houthis warned that "if the Americans attack Yemen, we will strike American interests in the Middle East, and there will be no red lines for us."
