The Lebanese Army initiated a heavy deployment in and around the city of Tyre on Tuesday afternoon.
This move comes as part of the military’s redeployment efforts in the region, particularly targeting border villages to ensure security amid renewed tensions between Hezbollah and Israel since the ceasefire agreement came into effect. Troops have been stationed in the neighborhoods and streets surrounding the city to maintain control and stability in the area.
On the ground, early Tuesday afternoon, machine gunfire was heard in the vicinity of the town of Majdal Zoun and an Israeli drone hit the town of Beit Lif in Bint Jbeil. A Merkava tank carried out an incursion from Tal al-Nahas, north of Kfar Kila, toward the Burj al-Malouk-Khiam junction. At around midday, an Israeli drone carried out a raid with a guided missile, targeting the outskirts of the town of Deir Sirian in Marjayoun. Israeli planes also breached the sound barrier over Tripoli.
On Tuesday morning, Israeli Army spokesperson Avichay Adraee issued a warning on X to Lebanese residents, prohibiting movement southward to specific villages and their surroundings until further notice. He emphasized that the Israeli military does not intend to target civilians but warned against returning to areas south of a defined line, as doing so poses risks. Adraee listed numerous towns and villages where returning is considered dangerous, including Shebaa, Bint Jbeil, Naqoura and Marjayoun, among others.
Israeli strikes killed at least ten people in southern Lebanon on Monday, the deadliest day since a ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah came into effect only six days prior.
The Lebanese Ministry of Public Health reported an initial death toll of five in Haris, in the Nabatiyeh district, and four in Tallouseh, in the Marjayoun district.
Israel announced it had struck dozens of Hezbollah targets after the pro-Iranian group claimed in a statement to have targeted an Israeli position in the “occupied hills of Kfarchouba.” This is the first time Hezbollah has done so since the onset of the ceasefire agreement on Wednesday.
The Israeli Army stated that Hezbollah fired two projectiles on the Shebaa Farms, which “fell in open areas and caused no reported injuries.”
State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller told reporters on Monday that the ceasefire “is holding” after Lebanon accused Israel of violating the truce and Israel accused the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah of a “serious” breach.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu described Hezbollah’s shelling, which targeted a disputed area at the border between Lebanon and the Israeli-occupied and annexed Golan Heights, as a “serious violation,” vowing to “respond with force.”
Airstrikes Persist in Southern Lebanon
Last night, Israeli aircraft attacked the Joussieh Legal Crossing, al-Hoz Bridge, and al-Jobaniah Bridge between Syria and Lebanon in the southwestern countryside of Homs.
According to sources, vehicles belonging to Hezbollah were targeted, but no casualties were reported.
The Israeli Army conducted air raids on several villages and towns in the areas of Tyre and Bint Jbeil. The military also fired flares and deployed thermal balloons over Aita al-Shaab.
Additionally, Israeli warplanes launched strikes on the area between the towns of Sijud and Mlaih in the Iqlim al-Tuffah region, as well as on Kfar Melki in Saida.
In Tyre, civil defense and Islamic Health Society teams are preparing victims’ remains for burial. Dr. Wissam Ghazal confirmed 192 fatalities, with coordinated efforts by health authorities and local agencies to complete the mission.
