Journalists were targeted by Israeli gunfire on Wednesday in the town of Khiam, in the Marjayoun district of southern Lebanon.

Two of them were injured: Associated Press reporter Mohammad al-Zaatari and Sputnik reporter Abdel Kader al-Bay. Both were transported to Marjayoun Hospital for treatment.

Joseph Kosseifi, head of the Lebanese Press Editors’ Syndicate, condemned the incident, calling it a “blatant violation of the ceasefire.”

“We are bringing this matter to the attention of the international community, human rights organizations, the International Criminal Court, the International Federation of Journalists and the General Federation of Arab Journalists,” he declared, accusing Israel of “violating international laws and conventions.”

He referenced the Geneva Conventions, which call for the protection of media professionals in armed conflict zones.

Kosseifi emphasized that Israeli forces have been targeting Lebanese journalists and press photographers since October 8, 2023.

He noted that more than a dozen media professionals have been killed, while dozens of others have been left permanently disabled or severely injured due to Israeli attacks.
