The Ministry of  Foreign Affairs directed Lebanon’s Permanent Mission to the UN in New York on Tuesday to file a new complaint to the Security Council. In this complaint, Lebanon denounces Israel's repeated targeting of the Lebanese army since the start of the war on October 8, 2023, particularly the incidents reported between November 17 and 24 in the villages of al-Mari, Sarafand, Burj al-Moulouk, and Amiriyeh. These attacks resulted in the deaths of 10 soldiers and left 35 seriously wounded.

Lebanon called on the member states of the Security Council to condemn the attacks perpetrated by Israel against the Lebanese army as a flagrant breach of international law, the UN Charter, and international resolutions, particularly Resolution 1701.
The complaint also stated that the Lebanese army, working closely with UNIFIL, is the key component in carrying out Resolution 1701 and guaranteeing long-term peace and stability in southern Lebanon by asserting the state’s authority across its territory and recognized borders.

Lastly, Lebanon emphasized that “targeting the army seriously undermines current international efforts to achieve a ceasefire and weakens ongoing mediation efforts.”
