The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has lodged a new complaint with the UN Security Council in response to Israeli attacks on the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).

The press release issued by the Ministry on Monday read: “More than thirty Israeli attacks targeted peacekeeping forces in Lebanon during the month of October 2024 alone.”

The text refers to recent violations committed by Israel, including an “Israeli attack that targeted, on November 7, 2024, a civilian car in the vicinity of the Lebanese Army checkpoint in the al-Awali sector, at the entrance to the city of Saida.” Five peacekeepers, who happened to be passing in the area, were injured in the strike, in addition to three Lebanese Army soldiers. Three civilians were also killed, the text said.

“On the same day, two excavators and a bulldozer belonging to the Israeli army destroyed part of the fence of a concrete structure in a UNIFIL position in Ras al-Naqoura,” the press release added.

Lebanon reiterated its request to the Security Council to “condemn these attacks, hold Israel responsible and take effective measures to guarantee the integrity of UNIFIL positions and the safety of its personnel.” These measures should “enable UNIFIL to fulfill its mandate fully and effectively, while ensuring the implementation of resolution 1701,” according to the text.
