Salim Ayyash, a senior Hezbollah figure, was reportedly killed in an Israeli strike, according to al-Hadath TV and Israeli media outlets.

Israel’s Channel 12 confirmed that Ayyash, who was convicted of the 2005 assassination of former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafic Hariri, was killed in an Israeli attack in Syria.

It is believed that Ayyash may have been targeted in an airstrike on the border town of Qusair.

Ayyash was sentenced in absentia by the Special Tribunal for Lebanon in December 2020 for his role in the assassination of Hariri.

The tribunal found him guilty of five charges including the intentional murder of Hariri on February 14, 2005.

Ayyash, born in 1963 in the town of Harouf, in the southern Lebanese district of Nabatieh, was one of Hezbollah's most prominent members and a key figure in the group's operations.
