Caretaker Minister of Interior Bassam Mawlawi told a press conference on Monday that despite the massive population displacement over the past weeks, only a few minor incidents have been recorded.

“After one and a half months of intense displacement, the crime rate has decreased, and the security and military forces continue to carry out their duties.”

“We have witnessed a large displacement crisis, with a quarter of the Lebanese population moving from one place to another,” Mawlawi said, adding, "the number of small disputes has remained below a hundred."

He also stressed that the Internal Security Forces, backed by official authorization from the appropriate judiciary, “will remove encroachments on private property while ensuring the dignity of the displaced."

Regarding the kidnapping of Imad Fadel Amhaz in Batroun, believed to be carried out by an Israeli commando unit, Mawlawi indicated that "what happened in Batroun was a military act and a breach (of sovereignty),” and that “an investigation is underway to clarify the details of the event."

Refuting criticism of security forces, Mawlawi stressed that “the legitimate security forces are the ones protecting Lebanon and the Lebanese people, and any attack on the Lebanese Army is unacceptable.”
