Jordanian Prime Minister Jaafar Hassan on Monday called for “the need to respect UN Security Council Resolution 1701” (which ended the war between Israel and Hezbollah in 2006).
This statement was made by Hassan during a meeting on Monday morning at the Serail in Amman, where he welcomed caretaker Lebanese Prime Minister, Najib Mikati.
Mr. Hassan expressed his firm opposition to “the Israeli aggression against Lebanon” and reiterated his country's support for Lebanon and its people.
“Jordan stands by Lebanon, supports its security, sovereignty and stability, and firmly rejects the brutal Israeli aggression against it”, he defended.
In response, Prime Minister Mikati expressed his gratitude for the steadfast support from the Jordanian leadership and the people, acknowledging their positions against the Israeli strikes on Lebanon.
The visit comes as the war between Israel and Hezbollah intensifies on both sides of the border.
This diplomatic meeting comes amid an escalation of hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah, raising concerns about regional stability and security.
