At around 1 PM, an Israeli raid targeted the Dar Salam hotel in the Wardanieh locality of Iqlim el-Kharroub, in the Chouf caza. Preliminary figures put the death toll at “six and injuries at ten.”
The hotel housed some 82 people, mostly displaced families from south Lebanon.
This was the fourth raid in the space of a few days to target the Iqlim el-Kharroub region, previously considered somewhat safe.
Meanwhile, Israeli media reported that “two people were killed in Kiryat Shmona by rockets fired from Lebanon” on Wednesday afternoon. They also reported that “the number of people injured by rockets in the Krayot region has risen to five.”
Attacks on South Lebanon
While a cautious calm persisted during the day in Beirut’s southern suburb, the attacks on south Lebanon have been relentless. An Israeli airstrike on a school in Sammaaiyah, Tyre, resulted in one death and multiple injuries. Israeli warplanes also targeted a volunteer center of the Health Authority in Wadi Jilu, killing at least two paramedics. The raids extended to Yater and Kafra, amid heavy artillery shelling.
A raid struck the area between Mahrouna and Jouya, while Labbouneh and Naqoura came under artillery shelling. Additional raids targeted Al-Hawsh, Qlayleh, Debaal, Tibnine, Shaqra junction, Arab Salim, Aaitit, Khiam and Sultaniyah.
Alarm sirens sounded at UNIFIL’s headquarters in Naqoura, reaching level 3 on their risk assessment scale, indicating “high risk,” according to a dispatch from the peacekeeping forces.
Attacks on Bekaa
In the Bekaa, Israeli warplanes launched a raid on Saaideh, west of Baalbeck, killing one citizen and injuring several others, including three women from the same family.
An airstrike on a house in al-Hallaniyah also resulted in the death of two individuals and multiple injuries.
Hezbollah Responds
Hezbollah claimed to have detonated an explosive device at an Israeli force attempting to infiltrate Blida, inflicting injuries. They further targeted various Israeli forces attempting to infiltrate Lebanese territory in Labbouneh, Mays al-Jabal, Mahayib and Ras al-Naqoura.
The group also claimed responsibility for strikes on Zovulun and gatherings of Israeli forces in the settlements of Kiryat Shmona, Kafr Jala'adi and Manara.
Fighting also took place between the Israeli army and Hezbollah combatants in Labbouneh near Naqoura.
Israeli Announcements
According to Israeli media, “two people were killed in Kiryat Shmona by rockets fired from Lebanon” on Wednesday afternoon. Earlier, they also reported that “five people were injured by rockets in the Krayot area.” Alarm sirens also sounded in some 30 Israeli towns following the latest rocket fire from Lebanon, and Israel's Channel 12 reported that “rockets landed in open areas in the Upper Galilee.”
Israel's Channel 12 also reported that “a senior advisor to the Finance Minister, Bezalel Smotrich, was wounded in the clashes on the border with Lebanon.”
Opening of New Shelters in the Bekaa Region
The governor of the Bekaa Valley decided to open new shelters, which have now reached 114. He said, some 15,000 displaced Lebanese are now being accommodated in shelters, hotels and apartments. The displaced camped on the ground in front of the Zahle Seraglio in the public park have been moved to the Faculty of Science building at the Lebanese University, as have the displaced persons in the courtyard of St. Charbel Church.
