Kataeb Party Chief Sami Gemayel reiterated on Wednesday the urgency of an immediate ceasefire and the implementation of international resolutions, primarily Resolution 1701.
He made these statements during a meeting with the UN Special Coordinator for Lebanon, Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert, during which they discussed the dire security situation affecting Lebanon.
The meeting also emphasized the need to assist the displaced people of the south and those who chose to stay in their villages, ensuring their protection from attacks. They also stressed the importance of the United Nations and the international community playing their role.
On Tuesday, Hennis-Plasschaert issued a grave statement about the ongoing violence across Lebanon, warning that “the escalating violence threatens to spiral out of control, endangering civilians on both sides.”
She further stressed that “this cycle of violence will not end well—for anyone,” urging all parties to seize the remaining opportunity for diplomacy.
