- South Lebanon: Alarming Rise in Tensions
Tensions in South Lebanon increased significantly, as Israeli raids on various villages and areas in the region intensified on Thursday night.
Several Israeli media outlets indicate that over fifty raids were carried out in less than an hour, following the discovery of several Hezbollah launchers that were preparing to blast northern Israel.
In less than twenty minutes, no fewer than seventy airstrikes were conducted, according to al-Hadath Saudi TV.
Avichay Adraee, the Arabic-speaking spokesman for the Israeli army, stated that “thirty rocket launch pads containing one hundred and fifty launchers had been discovered and demolished.”
“All thirty were about to be activated against Israel,” he posted on his X account.
He also reported raids against “military buildings and arms depots” belonging to the pro-Iranian formation.
Despite these tensions, Washington is confident that a diplomatic solution is still possible.
US President Joe Biden believes there can still be a diplomatic resolution to escalating tensions between Israel and Hezbollah following a series of pager and walkie-talkie bombings, his spokeswoman said Thursday.
"He believes it's achievable," Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told a briefing. "The president continues to believe that we have to be optimistic and a diplomatic resolution is the best way."
