Caretaker Minister of Economy and Trade, Amin Salam, launched a platform on Tuesday evening to boost exports to China in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Lebanese Signature.
“This platform is the first of its kind. Initially, it will feature ten companies showcased on China's premier online marketplace, JD.com," stated Mohammad Abou Haidar, Director General of the Ministry of Economy, in an interview with This is Beirut.
Abou Haidar explained that Lebanese companies will have the opportunity to sell their products online without the need for a physical presence in China or hiring staff. This move towards e-commerce will enable them to take advantage of VAT and customs tax reductions.
He also noted that Lebanese products will have a dedicated page as part of efforts to boost the export of goods and food products to the People’s Republic of China.
Abou Haidar emphasized that the exported Lebanese products meet Chinese standards, underscoring the global appeal of Lebanese cuisine. This encompasses not only food items but also wine, olive oil, and various services.
He also praised the efforts of Lebanon’s ambassador to China, Milia Jabbour, for bringing the project to fruition.
During the platform’s launch, Minister Salam highlighted that the platform offers a glimmer of hope for Lebanese businesses to showcase their goods, industries, and products in a market as vast and significant as China’s, capable of absorbing any Lebanese product.
He believes that this initiative strengthens the Lebanese-Chinese partnership and bilateral relations.
The minister concluded by expressing gratitude to the official authorities, involved ambassadors, and dedicated diplomats, acknowledging that the project's realization was made possible through their concerted efforts and diligent follow-up.
