Lufthansa, Europe's largest airline, announced on Thursday that it would extend the suspension of its flights to Beirut until October 15, attributing this decision to heightened tensions in the Middle East.
The airline group, which encompasses Eurowings, Austrian, Swiss and Brussels Airlines, initially suspended flights to the Lebanese capital at the end of July due to escalating security concerns in the area. The current suspension was set to last until the end of September.
While flights to Tel Aviv and Tehran have resumed as of September 5, a spokesperson from Lufthansa mentioned that Austrian is presently the sole airline within the group conducting flights to Iran.
