The Metropolitan of Beirut, Bishop Elias Audi, stressed the importance of “fidelity to our country and dedication to its well-being, abandoning our narcissism and personal interests.”
In his homily on Sunday, the Orthodox Bishop argued that “the Church raises its children to be faithful to their homeland, to serve it, to respect its laws and their application, and to respect their fellow citizens.” He added, however, that “the Church does not tolerate injustice, does not cover up crime, and does not favor the leader who goes astray, for this is at the heart of its mission to bear witness to the truth.”
