Opposition MPs: 'The War Destroys Lebanon and Doesn’t Help Palestine'
Opposition MPs emphasized on Monday the need to “protect Lebanon and prevent it from being dragged into a wider war, which has no other goal than to elevate Iran in the regional equation.”

“We refuse to be dragged into a war that doesn’t help the Palestinian cause and destroys Lebanon,” they declared.

In a statement published after the press conference they held in Parliament, the MPs discussed their position on the ongoing war in South Lebanon and the dangers of its expansion.

MP Ashraf Rifi, who read the statement, emphasized that “escalations and threats have reached their highest level since October 8, resulting in the death of hundreds of Lebanese and the destruction of thousands of houses.”

He pointed out that “economic and environmental damage are the results of Israeli attacks, in light of the political, economic and financial crises plaguing the country.”

He also added, “In light of the delay in electing a new President to restore authority and regularity of institutions, we stress the need to separate the Lebanese and Palestinian tracks,” reiterating “adherence to the two-state solution and the Beirut Summit Declaration.”

Rifi also reaffirmed “the importance of implementing Resolution 1701 in supporting the Lebanese army to control southern, eastern and northern international borders, to establish state sovereignty over all Lebanese territories.”
