Mikati: Probe Launched Into US Embassy Attack
Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati,announced on Wednesday that an investigation has been launched to determine the circumstances of the US Embassy incident and to arrest those involved in the shooting. He also indicated that the situation is currently stable.

After meeting caretaker Minister of Defense, Maurice Sleem, Mikati held talks with Army Commander General Joseph Aoun and heads of security services and diplomatic representatives, especially that the US Ambassador in Beirut, Lisa Johnson, is currently out of the country.


For his part, caretaker Foreign Minister Abdallah Bou Habib condemned the attack, affirming that Lebanon remains committed to “protecting the headquarters of diplomatic missions operating in Beirut, in accordance with the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations."

On Wednesday morning, the American Embassy in Awkar was subject to shooting from a passing car. According to a statement from the Lebanese army, the shooter is of Syrian nationality.
