French President Emmanuel Macron stressed full French commitment to seek a solution to the Lebanese crisis which is weakening the country, during a meeting with former Minister and head of the Socialist Progressive Party (PSP), Walid Joumblatt.
In a statement issued by the Élysée Palace on Friday, Macron reiterated his call on all Lebanese political parties to "assume responsibilities to get out of the current impasse," by electing a new president.
He also emphasized "France’s full dedication to preventing risks of escalation on the southern border, due to rising tensions between Lebanon and Israel, in accordance with Resolution 1701, and France’s historical commitment to Lebanese security and stability."
In parallel, Macron affirmed continuous French support through participation in UNIFIL and stressed that "France will continue to provide the Lebanese Army with the support needed to ensure stability."
