Civil Defense Volunteers File Settled by Committee
The parliamentary Finance and Budget Committee, headed by MP Ibrahim Kanaan, settled today the issue of cadet Civil Defense volunteers, who are awaiting a law amendment enabling them to benefit from health care and salary supplements.

After the meeting, Kanaan pointed out that Civil Defense workers haven’t received their salaries in over eight months.

“There is no need to repeat that all work deserves a salary, and that those who put their lives at risk on a daily basis do not deserve such treatment,” Kannan said.

“It was therefore necessary to find a legal and financial way to secure the salaries of these people, given the differences that exist between administrations, notably in the classification of employees, with there being separate laws for public civilian employees and military personnel,” he continued.

Kanaan then revealed that the Finance and Budget Committee, after discussions with various parties, has adopted a recommendation for the release of salaries, based on securing an emergency advance from the budget. This procedure is possible since the credits and contributions for Civil Defense are provided for in the 2024 budget, according to his explanation.

Kanaan hopes that the eight-month arrears will begin to be paid by the Ministry of Defense.
