Hezbollah has not yet conveyed its response to the National Moderation parliamentary bloc, whose delegation is scheduled to meet with the Speaker of Parliament, Nabih Berri, on Saturday afternoon. The purpose of this meeting is to update the Speaker on the results of the MPs' recent visits to various political parties to whom they submitted their initiative aimed at resolving the presidential deadlock.
As of Friday evening, Hezbollah had not responded to the Moderation MPs, according to the Markazia agency, which cited sources within the bloc. “It remains uncertain whether Hezbollah will respond positively to the initiative or reject it,” the source added.
The initiative involves conducting parliamentary consultations for the presidential election at Nejmeh Square. Subsequently, MPs would call for an open electoral session with successive rounds until a president is elected. This option is favored by Berri, as well as the Quintet Committee comprising the United States, France, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Qatar.
The initiative was presented to the Kataeb, the Lebanese Forces, the Renewal MPs (Michel Moawad, Ashraf Rifi and Fouad Makhzoumi), the Democratic Gathering chaired by Progressive Socialist Party (PSP) leader Taymur Jumblatt, the Change Coalition (Waddah Sadek, Mark Daou and Michel Douaihy) and independent MPs.
The bloc also shared its proposal with Maronite Patriarch Bechara Rai and Vice-President of the Supreme Islamic Shiite Council Sheikh Ali al-Khatib.
