Joanna Wronecka, the United Nations Special Coordinator for Lebanon, paid two visits on Monday to Lebanese officials to discuss the ongoing tensions at the southern border and diplomatic efforts to restore peace in the region.
She met with Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati. During the meeting, Wronecka expressed her satisfaction with "the Lebanese government's efforts to find a diplomatic solution to the question of south Lebanon." The UN Special Coordinator also urged all parties in the region to "calm down."
Wronecka also visited Ain el-Tineh to discuss the same issues with the Speaker of Parliament, Nabih Berri.
These visits are part of the UN coordinator's ongoing diplomatic efforts to ensure that Security Council Resolution 1701 is ultimately implemented in southern Lebanon.
