The Lebanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly condemned on Sunday the "aggressive Israeli plans to invade the city of Rafah as part of the ongoing war on the Gaza Strip, forcibly displacing Palestinians."

The ministry urged the International Security Council to "fulfill its responsibilities by promptly deciding on an immediate ceasefire, facilitating the entry of humanitarian aid to Palestinians, and ultimately recognizing the Palestinian state with its capital East Jerusalem," following relevant international legitimacy resolutions and the principles of international law.

Earlier in the day, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared Israel's intention to launch a ground offensive in Rafah, a move that has prompted growing international warnings of "serious repercussions."
