U.S. President Donald Trump has announced the imposition of a naval blockade on the Strait of Hormuz, saying that in 20 hours of direct negotiations yesterday, Iran proved it was “UNWILLING TO GIVE UP ITS NUCLEAR AMBITIONS!”
His lengthy post on Truth Social comes on the heels of the first direct U.S.-Iran negotiations since the war began, led principally by U.S. Vice President JD Vance and Iran’s Speaker of Parliament Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf in Islamabad, Pakistan.
Blockade
“Iran promised to open the Strait of Hormuz, and they knowingly failed to do so,” Trump began, stating that Iran has claimed to have “put mines in the water,” which he described as “WORLD EXTORTION,” forcing shippers to negotiate with Iran for safe passage around mines “that nobody knows about but them.”
As a result, the President ordered a full naval blockade targetting “any and all Ships trying to enter, or leave, the Strait of Hormuz.”
In addition, Trump stated he had “also instructed [the] Navy to seek and interdict every vessel in International Waters that has paid a toll to Iran. No one who pays an illegal toll will have safe passage on the high seas.”
The statement said the blockade would begin shortly, and hat “Other Countries will be involved with this Blockade,” without specifying which countries.
“Iran will not be allowed to profit off this Illegal Act of EXTORTION,” the statement read, saying “Any Iranian who fires at us, or at peaceful vessels, will be BLOWN TO HELL!”
Nuclear
The President stressed that although “the meeting went well, [and] most points were agreed to, the only point that really mattered, NUCLEAR, was not.”
The statement said that after 20 hours of talks, Iran was “very unyielding as to the single most important issue” and that, “IRAN WILL NEVER HAVE A NUCLEAR WEAPON!”
“They want money and, more importantly, they want Nuclear,” he said, threatening to “finish up the little that is left of Iran!”
