Maroun Chammas: Fuel Is Available, but Prices May Increase!
President of the Association of Petroleum Importing Companies Maroun Chammas reassured people that "gasoline is available," in response to citizens' fears of gas stations' rationing.

However, in an interview on Sunday with local channel MTV, Chammas warned that events in the Red Sea could affect Lebanon, "where we could see an increase in fuel prices."

"We have not stopped delivering fuel and gasoline to whoever asks for it. We acted to pressure the government and Parliament to provide us with clarifications, and we have received sufficient assurances,” he explained.

In a press release issued on January 30, fuel importers announced the suspension of deliveries of their products (petrol, diesel and gas) starting the following morning, on Wednesday, January 31. This was in protest against the introduction of "an exceptional fine or tax" to be imposed on importing companies, as approved by Parliament in the budget for fiscal year 2024.

Chammas also stressed that "security services are well aware of oil smugglers, and they could pursue and punish them if they wanted to.”
