'Tabligh,' an App for Reporting Violations in Beirut
Beirut MP Ghassan Hasbani launched on Monday an initiative aimed at reinforcing security in the capital. The "Tabligh" (literally, "report") application enables anyone to report "transgressions, mainly those committed by illegal immigrants."

Users must upload an image of the offense in question and specify its nature. To do so, they must tick a box from a list of proposed offenses on the application. Once the information has been submitted, the photo is transferred to the relevant authorities, who are then responsible for enforcing the law after verifying the authenticity of the report.

Hasbani explained that this initiative aims to "involve citizens in supporting security services so that they can meet growing challenges." In a speech, he emphasized that this initiative "is similar to measures taken in some countries where citizens can easily report offenses."

This initiative complements the coordination work between the region's MPs, recently launched to address the challenges posed by the presence of migrants in irregular situations.

The initiative was launched at a time of increasing security incidents in Beirut. The latest occurred on Thursday evening, when a motorcyclist of Syrian nationality killed a municipal policeman after trying to force his way through a municipal police checkpoint.
