In his last Sunday homily of the year, the Greek Orthodox Metropolitan of Beirut, Bishop Elias Audi, called for the swift election of a head of state to initiate a process of reform and recovery, hoping that it "will not take too long so that Lebanon can regain its prosperity, democracy and role."
Bishop Audi insisted that Lebanon needs a patriotic stance that brings people together, leading to the election of a president and a reconstitution of state institutions to protect Lebanon through the application of the law.
Bishop Audi also criticized political leaders, urging them to understand the gravity of the situation and to assume their responsibilities by renouncing, "If only once, everything that prevents them from facilitating the electoral process." He called on them to show humility.
