The Greek Orthodox Metropolitan of Beirut, Elias Audi, called for national dialogue, stressing that “this is precisely what our beloved country lacks, as each group seeks to dominate the other through ideas, actions or even weapons.”
“This is not how nations are built or societies flourish,” he said during Sunday Mass at Saint George Cathedral in Beirut. “They are built through constructive dialogue based on mutual respect, among equal citizens, under a single banner, that of the homeland, protected by one army, the national army, and united by one shared belonging: a single nation where all are equal.”
Audi also affirmed that “since we are all children of the same God, we must demonstrate it by being children of one homeland, not divided into rival factions, opposing parties or communities competing for power, influence or the imposition of their opinions and beliefs.”
