Former US Assistant Secretary of State, David Schenker, was affirmative that “Iran has already decided that it will not waste its assets in Hezbollah to save Hamas,” stressing that although it is an asset for Tehran, “the Palestinian movement is much less valuable than Hezbollah.”
In an interview with the pan-Arab Al-Arabiya TV, Schenker said, “Iran wants to preserve Hezbollah’s capabilities so that it can be deployed on the border to deter Israel from attacking Iran.”
“This is Hezbollah’s mission, and for this reason, the party has exercised restraint in its operations against Israel so far.”
He argued that the United States “must not do anything” to deter Hezbollah’s intervention during the Gaza war, “as Iran is already working to restrict its proxy.”
Schenker also pointed out that “many in Israel consider that the time has come to go to war with Hezbollah, and they see that a future war is inevitable, while Israel is vigorously active to re-establish a kind of deterrence in the north, whether in Syria or Lebanon.”
