- Saudis Still Committed to Normalization with Israel
Thomas Friedman of The New York Times reported on Wednesday that when the war in Gaza ends, Saudi Arabia would still be interested in resuming negotiations for a potential normalization of relations with Israel.
According to the report, the negotiators discussed a deal in which the United States would sign a security treaty with the Kingdom. The Saudis would normalize relations with Israel if the latter accepted a two-state solution involving the Palestinian Authority.
The report further stated that in recent months, the Saudi government initiated a poll asking Saudis about their opinion on normalization with Israel if it were to include Saudi support for a Palestinian state. The poll showed a 70% approval rate, a senior Saudi official stated.
