Joumblatt: Lebanon Must Not Be Dragged Into War With Israel
The former president of the Progressive Socialist Party, Walid Joumblatt, stated on Monday the importance of “not being dragged into a war against Israel.”

In a television interview, Joumblatt emphasized the necessity to uphold United Nations Resolution 1701, cautioning against “the potential withdrawal of international forces if the resolution is violated.”

Joumblatt found the two-state solution for the Israeli-Palestinian conflict “difficult, if not impossible,” suggesting that if major powers agreed on this solution, “an international conference would be essential due to the presence of over 700,000 armed Israeli soldiers in the Western sector.”

Expressing his desire for Israel to face the International Criminal Court, he argued that “international justice serves as a balance of power.”

Rejecting the value of a truce, Joumblatt stated that the United States “could influence Israel if it chose to do so.”

Instead, he called for “a serious ceasefire” and accused Israel of seeking to continue its war of killing and extermination against the Palestinian people.

“The Israeli government desires to forcibly displace a large number of people, repeating the tragedy of the 1948 Nakba,” he lamented.
